I used to love buying commercial stain removing products! I love watching the stains disappear. I love working on a cleaning project and seeing the results.

I did that over and over until one day. I cleaned everything and ended up sick. Really sick. It took about three weeks to get well. I began looking into the reason why and the only thing that I could come up with was the number of chemicals that I had used. When I stopped using those chemicals, I started getting better.

So, I started looking for non-toxic ways to clean stuff......

As you may have guessed, I love Lemongrass Essential Oil. I use it for everything. And now it is part of my laundry rituals. The "stuff" in lemongrass is great at pulling out stains. Some folks will use Lemon Essential Oil, and that's ok. Lemongrass works really well at getting tough stains like juice and grass. In fact, if you are working on a grease stain, you can spray the remover on it and add a little corn starch. The should pull the stain and grease right out in little time.

Homemade Stain Remover

INGREDIENTS

1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide (3%)

2 tablespoons liquid castile soap

20 drops lemongrass essential oil (like this)

TO MAKE

Combine ingredients and pour into a dark glass spray bottle. Hydrogen peroxide is sensitive to light so a dark bottle is essential for maintaining potency.

TO USE

Shake well, then spray stain remover on the affected area – do a patch test first if there is any concern about colorfastness. I sometimes allow it to sit for about 5 minutes, then rinse while rubbing/scrubbing the fabric, then reapply and repeat until the stain is gone. Other times, I just spray it on and just throw it in the wash.
